Aqaba Spice Shop
One of my new Aqaba/Jordan friends is Fadel, manager of Al-Baba Spices. I wasn’t in his shop for hardly ten seconds before I’ve got a cup of tea in one hand and am stretching out the other to sample the spices he knows I’ll love. He’s very outgoing and excited to show me his clever “Spices at Prices Lower than Walmart” sign overhead. I buy some Bedouin tea, then turn my attention to the scarves, for which Fadel teaches me the proper way to tie around my head.
I returned a few days later with Elmarie to enlist Fadel’s help in restocking our spice cabinet. He took it as a big honor to be introduced to my wife. After we paid for our stuff, Fadel asked me to pick out a scarf for him to give me as a gift, then gave Elmarie a container of spiced perfume.
I don’t know if the prices were any lower, but I still don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back to Walmart. Nope.
